Charlette Mikulka earned her Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1974 and her Masters in Social Work from Rutgers Graduate School of Social Work in 1976. Charlette’s initial work experience included Child Protective Services and Family Life Education. For thirteen years, until 2003 when she started her private psychotherapy practice, Charlette worked in Sussex County schools providing psychotherapy to adolescents. Charlette is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (#44SC04336000) and is a member of the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA)and the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT.)
Charlette invests a great deal in continuing education so as to provide the most competent service possible. Charlette's EMDR training took place in June and November of 2002 through the EMDR Institute. By January 2006 she fulfilled the special requirements enabling her to earn Certification through the EMDR International Association. In September 2013, after seven years of extensive training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples, Charlette became certified by the ICEEFT. Continuing education is far more than a matter of meeting a licensing requirement, it is a passion.
Besides her professional education and experience, Charlette has learned a great deal in her 70 years life journey that has been very useful in understanding and assisting others. She has a good personal as well as clinical understanding of what it is like to be psychologically and relationally "dysfunctional" and what is involved in developing a healthy self, healthy relationships and a satisfying life. She invests much energy in living a conscious life.
In 2011, Charlette self-published her labor of love, Peace in the Heart and Home: A Down-to-Earth Guide to Creating a Better Life for You and Your Loved Ones. It was highly endorsed by experts in the fields of mental health, marriage and family therapy, trauma, stress, mind-body medicine, neuroscience and spirituality, the subjects of the book.
In addition to her enthusiasm for learning and her profession, Charlette loves the camaraderie of friends, appreciating and photographing nature and architecture, walking, biking, making quilts and mosaics, singing, cooking and visiting her favorite places: New York City, New Hope, PA and Vermont. Snorkeling in the Florida Keys and exploring the American Southwest and Italy were magical vacation highlights that stay with her.
